At the recent Duty Free News International (DFNI) Global Awards held in the Royal Lancaster hotel in London, Dubai Duty Free made a double appearance on the stage when the operation was announced the winner in two new award categories: “Charitable Business of the Year” and “Charity Champion of the Year”.

The Charity Champion of the Year was given to Mr Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free, for his role in establishing the Dubai Duty Free Foundation and for instilling a strong sense of Corporate Social Responsibility within the company. 

The second award for Charity Business of the Year, recognized the considerable role of Dubai Duty Free Foundation which was established in 2004 and since that time has supported 40 local and 53 overseas charities.

Commenting on these latest awards, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Colm McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to receive the inaugural DFNI Global Awards for 'Charitable Business of the Year’ and ‘Charity Champion of the Year’, and I would like to thank everyone from the industry and the panel of judges who voted for Dubai Duty Free. These awards reaffirm the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and that of our employees who actively take part in supporting worthy causes."

Present at the awarding ceremony was Dubai Duty Free’s Senior Vice President – Marketing, Sinead El Sibai, who accepted the awards from Amanda Felix, DFNI Associate Publisher together with award sponsors Oliver Storrie of Quintessential Brands and Sean Brierley of Metropolis, respectively.

The DFNI Global Awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the DFNI Maharani Charity Ball which featured a live auction that invited guests to bid on a range of items, including a trip to the Dubai for the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup in November. The funds raised will go to this year’s chosen charity, the Akanksha Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation aimed at providing children from low-income communities with a high-quality education, regardless of their background all across India.  So far, £24,000 has been raised in aid of the foundation and this figure continues to grow. Founded in 1990 in New Delhi, India, Akanksha’s network has grown to over 20 schools in Mumbai and Pune.
