Dubai Duty Free has been named “Employer of the Year” at the recently concluded Filipino Times Awards held at JW Marriot Marquis on 7th September.
Dubbed as the “Oscars” of the Filipino community in the UAE, The Filipino Times (TFT) Awards, which is now in its fourth edition, continues to acknowledge the accomplishments of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who have shown excellence in their respective fields of work as well as the brands that Filipinos have embraced as part of their regular activities during their stay in the country.
Over 40,000 voted in the biggest online poll of its kind in The Filipino Times Awards website for the brand category, selecting from over 200 brands that made to the final list of nominees. Companies who have shown excellence in providing extensive services for the Filipinos were also given due recognition through the company awards. In total, 34 brands and companies were awarded.
Dubai Duty Free was recognised for its valuable contribution and excellence in building the Employer Brand as the most sought after Employer of Choice by Filipinos in the UAE.
Commenting on the award, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Colm McLoughlin said, “We’re thrilled to have been named “Employer of the Year” at The Filipino Times Awards. We currently employ 2,413 Filipino staff, which is the biggest groups of employees. We have an internal recruitment policy across our company and I am delighted that we currently have Filipino’s in 61 different positions, including shopfloor sales assistants, cashiers, supervisors, beauty advisors, merchandisers, display artists to name a few, while 21 are in managerial roles.”
Collecting the award on behalf of the airport retailer were Michael Schmidt, Senior Vice President - Retail Support and Mona Al Ali, Vice President - HR Service Delivery who received the award from Dr. Karen Remo, Co-founder and Managing Director of New Perspective Media, publisher of The Filipino Times and organiser of The Filipino Times Awards.
Dubai Duty Free currently employs 6,100 staff of 47 different nationalities and is one of the premier “employers of choice” in the UAE which is evidenced by the fact that the company received more than 81,500 unsolicited job applications during the last year.
From the original 100 staff recruited in 1983, 26 are still in full time service, including 3 of the original Filipino staff recruited as the first batch from the Philippines.<< Back
