The rolling fairways of the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates played host to the Dubai Irish Golf Society (DIGS) for the annual Mark Fahy Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Dubai Duty Free on Friday, 10th March. On what was a warm and at times blustery day over sixty DIGS members turned out to support the event which runs in memory of Mark Fahy, a prominent figure within the Irish community here in Dubai before sadly losing his battle with cancer.

 

With the strong field and challenging course conditions, the champion golfer on the day was Nick Kane who scored a 43 points winning with a better back nine score. With the champion golfer crowned it was onto the Men’s Division: in third place with a score of 36 was Matt Neno, runner up with 37 points was Paul Byrne, and the men’s division winner with a total of 43 points missing out as overall winner was David Richardson. Winner of the Nearest to the Pin on Hole 17 was Ewan Mitchell and Ian Griffin hit the Longest Drive on Hole 14. The winner of Best Gross was the every impressive Harry Sheedy, with a gross 77 Harry is certainly a name to look out for in the future.

I am glad the competition was so closely contested and that a great day was had by all.”

 

The Ladies Division played between the better half of the field was a tightly fought contest: Winner of Nearest to the Pin on hole 6 was Sile McIlroy who also picked up the winner of Longest Drive on hole 9. Ladies Division runner up was Nicola Chittenden with 31 points winning on a better back nine score from Sile McIlroy.  The champion lady golfer with a brilliant 32 points was Evelyn O’Brien.
