News Wednesday, October 4, 2017 Dubai Duty Free Celebrates Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

Dubai Duty Free welcomed the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival with a simple celebration in Terminal 3 – Concourse B and Concourse C (Control Tower) of Dubai International Airport. Present at the occasion was Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice President for Commercial, Nic Bruwer, along with other DDF officials and staff, and some members of the Chinese media.

 

The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is the second grandest festival in China after Chinese New Year held on the 15th day of the eight lunar month in the Chinese calendar during a full moon.   

 

 

Commenting on the celebration, Nic Bruwer, Executive Vice President -Commercial said, “We are delighted to welcome the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival at Dubai Duty Free. This is the second most significant festival on the Chinese calendar and celebrated not only in China but around the world.”

 

To mark the occasion, the operation  launched the “Chinese Golden Week” promotion in cooperation with UnionPay International offering customers a chance to win a 24k gold coin for every purchase worth AED1,000 or more with UnionPay card (card number start with 62) at Dubai Duty Free. The promotion runs until 10th October. In addition, some Chinese favorite beauty brands including Loreal, Lancome and YSL came out with special promotions for CTrip customers offering 15% to 25% discount on selected items.

 

Other attractive Chinese-themed promotions were rolled out across Dubai Duty Free in Dubai International Airport at the themed retail areas offering the most popular products for Chinese consumers. Traditional Chinese blooming flower imagery and decorative hanging lanterns adorned these areas creating the look and feel of the festival, while some Dubai Duty Free Chinese staff distributed “mooncakes” to passengers, adding authenticity to the atmosphere. Mooncake is the most iconic food associated with the festival that symbolizes family reunions and best wishes.

 

To date, Dubai Duty Free has almost 6,000 employees comprised of 45 different nationalities including 560 Chinese staff.

 

 

Also present at the celebration was Thankachan Varghese, Operations Manager (Concourse A), Teresita Dizon, Duty Manager, Sunshine Bian, Assistant Manager-Resourcing and Manpower Planning, Patrick Yan Zhao, Officer and Bo Yun, Market Researcher among others.
