Strikes and spares were racked up at the Dubai International Bowling Centre for the finals of the annual Dubai Duty Free Bowling Tournament held on 5th November.
The tournament finals which is part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge initiative of Dubai Duty Free, was graced by its senior officials headed by Salah Tahlak, Executive Vice President – Corporate Services along with Bernard Creed, Senior Vice President – Finance, Sean Staunton, Senior Vice President – Retail Sales, Michael Schmidt, Senior Vice President – Retail Support and Zayed Al Shebli, Vice President - Loss Prevention and Corporate Security.
Almost 1,100 Dubai Duty Free employees participated in this year tournament with 35 of the leading teams hitting the lanes to battle for the top honours on the final day. All the teams from the four shifts and general offices enjoyed the games immensely with new bowling records established.
Commenting on the event, Salah Tahlak said, “The Sports and Social Committee at Dubai Duty Free, which organizes this event, has always been extremely active and it is great to see so many of our staff actively involved with the tournaments, whether as players or supporters.”
Shift A (Concourse C) Bhatong Buko team from Operations was declared the champion with 2,677 points for three games won over the Desert Hawk team of Finance with 2,639 points, while Merchandising Aces was within grabbing distance in the third place with 2,596 points. Individual awards were also presented to each categories such as Striker of the Day, High Game Handicap, High Game Scratch, High Game Series, Top Five High Average and DDF Best Bowler for both male and female category.
The Sports and Social Committee was founded in 1986 to encourage an active lifestyle and sporting achievement amongst its growing workforce. The retailer’s teams have since excelled in major tournaments in sports including basketball, football, bowling, cricket, volleyball and recently, in dragon boat racing.
The retail operation has two more corporate fitness activities planned for the Dubai Fitness Challenge which includes a Dragon Boat race scheduled on 9th November at Dubai Creek & Yacht Club and a group Zumba class to be conducted by a licensed Zumba Fitness Trainer on 17th November at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
