Her Majesty The Queen graced the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials Meeting at Newbury Racecourse (UK), with her presence for a second consecutive year as a crowd of more than 15,000 flocked to the Berkshire course for the two-day race meeting on 16 and 17 April.
On both days, Dubai Duty Free officials headed by Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director and Salah Tahlak, Director-Corporate Communications welcomed a number of United Kingdom-based business partners, from the travel industry, media and commerce sectors and racing industry professionals.
Former Spice Girl and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, Geri Halliwell, was a surprise visitor on the second day of the meeting which enjoyed early summer sunshine, and saw success on the track for the Ralph Beckett-trained Puff in the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Stakes, narrowly beating His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s Habaayib.
Royal success at the meeting came in the form of Meezaan who won the Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap Stakes for His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry on the opening day, and Tactician who proves a popular winner of the Maiden Stakes for The Queen on day two.
Racegoers were able to sample authentic Arabic coffee and dates on both days, while registering for the chance win free entry into the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise draws at the Dubai Duty Free marquee.
